Corona Virus State of Emergency Mayor Message

Statement regarding COVID-19 Emergency Declaration for the City of Keizer

Dear Keizer Community,

The City Council and City Manager have been working to ensure our city continues to be ready to serve you throughout the changes that have been made necessary by the COVID-19 pandemic. Along with our partners at Marion County, the State of Oregon, and the Federal Government, we have all been communicating, collaborating and adapting as necessary to achieve the goal of helping all of us reduce the risk of contracting or spreading COVID-19.

One of the tools available to us is an emergency declaration. This is a step we believe should be made for specific purposes not already covered by the declarations by the county, state and federal levels. At this point, the time has come for the City of Keizer to proceed to declare a state of emergency so that resources will be more readily available and we can more quickly respond to changing needs.

What this will do: we may have quicker access to financial resources and reimbursement of costs to our city; We may be able to change our public safety operations more quickly to best meet situations as they arise; And we may be able to obtain goods and services through emergency procurements and contracts that normally would have to go through regular public processes.

Your health and safety as well as the health and safety of all city employees are of primary importance. Together, we will continue to provide service and be here for and with you. Keizer, we are up for this challenge!

Cathy Clark, Mayor
