Summary

On Friday, May 27, 2016 at 11:03 a.m. officers from the Keizer Police Department responded to the 7-Eleven convenience store located at 4380 River Road North on a report a vehicle had just crashed into the business.  Upon the officers arrival they found a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee had crashed through the front entry doors causing a substantial amount of damage.

The investigating officer determined the vehicle was being operated by 22-year old Cindy Rosas Ortega of Keizer.  Ms. Rosas Ortega did not have a license or instructional permit.  Ms. Rosas Ortega was not injured in the crash.  She was issued a traffic citation for operating a motor vehicle without an operator’s license.

A passenger in the vehicle was identified as 27-year old Johana Gomez Ortega of Keizer.  Ms. Gomez Ortega was issued a traffic citation for providing a vehicle to an unlicensed driver.  Neither Ms. Gomez Ortega nor Ms. Rosas Ortega was injured as a result of the crash.

Both a 7-Eleven cashier and at least one patron were located inside the business near the cash register when the crash occurred.  The momentum of the vehicle crashing into the business startled both individuals, but neither reported any injuries to the investigating officer.

The investigating officer learned Ms. Rosas Ortega who is deaf was reported to have been operating a motor vehicle for her first time when the crash occurred.  Ms. Gomez Ortega told the investigating officer she was not able to tell Ms. Rosas Ortega how to stop the vehicle.
